The origins of most Middle Eastern flutes can be traced back to Mesopotamia and Egypt in the 3rd millennium BCE. Although it doesn’t appear that much has changed in regard to basic design, musically and culturally they have evolved considerably, as they spread throughout the Middle East, North Africa and beyond.
